With their wide range of designs and bespoke nature, BSA Nottingham can produce outstanding results in line with any set budget, timescale and personal taste. Our team shares 25 years of trade and industry experience, so we work in compliance with British Security Standards and Building Regulations as second nature.
Below, we’ve taken a closer look at the preliminary steps that must be addressed before we arrive on site to begin construction.
In the majority of cases, adding conservatories or orangeries to a property falls under the classification of “permitted development”. As such, the installation of these structures does not require planning permission as long they remain within certain limits.
These limitations include:
• No more than half the land around the original house can be covered by additional buildings
• Additional structures must not extend over the rear wall of the original home by more than 4 metres on attached houses or 8 metres on detached houses
One of the very first things our clients in Nottingham, Derby and the neighbouring areas need to consider is where they want to place their conservatory or orangery. Do you want to create a flowing entrance from your kitchen to a new dining area? Or would you prefer a structure that links to a living room to create a larger living space?
The specifics of each individual property often dictate what can and can’t be done in this regard. However, it’s always important to think about the possible view, available space, appearance and the optimal amount of natural light. Planning restrictions may also need to be taken into account.
Wherever our customers decide to place their conservatory, we fit a strong foundation to suit the soil conditions at the site.
In order to give our clients the best possible solution, we provide a wide range conservatory styles, including:
ORANGERIES – This traditional, atrium-style conservatory delivers the look and feel of a house extension, but with the light and airy nature of a modern conservatory. With brick pillars rising up to the roofline, orangeries provide more privacy than the designs listed below, but their use of large, expansive windows, glass conservatory roofs or roof lanterns ensures they retain the comfort and warm welcome.
GABLE – Much like Georgian conservatories, gable designs utilise a square or rectangular floor base. This creates a squared appearance that is enhanced by a high sloping roof. When combined with a front panel that sits upright rather than at an angle, gable conservatories create a more elevated feel.
LEAN-TO – These conservatories have been designed to lean against the existing property with a roof sloping downward at a gentle angle. Due to their ability to make efficient use of limited space, lean-to designs make the perfect fit for smaller gardens. The pitch of the roof can be as little as 2.5° or as much as 30°.
GEORGIAN – Either square or rectangular in shape, these conservatories come with a pitched roof that slopes down on every side. This feature maximises the amount of sunlight entering the room throughout the day. The straight lines of the floorplan create a flat-fronted appearance with excellent use of floor space.
P or T-SHAPE – This style provides an ideal solution for properties in Nottingham, Derby and the surrounding areas with a significant amount of available garden space. As the name suggests, these designs come in P or T shapes that combine the features of Victorian and lean-to conservatories. This combination provides a highly versatile, bright and spacious living area.
VICTORIAN – This design features a distinctive pitched roof at a steep angle and a bay front. This classic, timeless style has held its popularity for decades due to its exceptional floor space inside and ornate ridge details outside. Victorian conservatories work equally well with both modern builds and period properties.
